GE Vernova unveils MV-UPS for AI data centers

GE Vernova's announcement comes as electricity demand from AI facilities accelerates and even brief electrical disturbances can interrupt critical workloads. The company points out that when AI workloads shift suddenly, sharp swings in demand get passed back to the grid or on-site generation, creating strain. The MV-UPS is designed to address this by acting as a buffer at the medium-voltage level, absorbing those swings before they reach the grid.

The product fits into GE Vernova's existing end-to-end data center portfolio, which the company calls its power-to-rack approach. That portfolio already includes gas turbines, transformers, switchgear, and energy management systems. Philippe Piron, CEO of GE Vernova's Electrification segment, described the product as "the true end-to-end medium-voltage power stability solution for energy-intensive industries, including data centers." The company is also developing solid-state transformer technology, which together with the MV-UPS is intended to strengthen its ability to meet the reliability, scale, and electrical-efficiency demands of AI data centers.
