What happened
Dell took almost $61 billion in AI server orders last quarter and ended with a $95 billion backlog. Revenue rose 58% to a record $47 billion.
Why it matters
The backlog exceeds quarterly revenue, so the order pipeline is the main reason to expect the AI server business to keep growing.
What to watch
Dell says its pipeline is "multiples of our backlog," so the story hinges on converting that into revenue. Watch the 20 times forward earnings valuation.

Dell's numbers come from the same demand wave that has made Nvidia the world's largest company by market cap. Nvidia's revenue more than doubled in the previous quarter to $96.2 billion, and its guidance for the current quarter points to a 90% year-over-year increase. CEO Jensen Huang has reaffirmed a projection of $3 trillion to $4 trillion in global AI infrastructure spending in 2030, well above a 2026 estimate of $800 billion from PwC.
That spending shows up in Dell's results because hyperscalers and AI companies buy rack-scale servers equipped with Nvidia's chips. Dell said on its earnings call that it is "the first to ship Rack Systems engineered on the Nvidia Vera Rubin platform." Over the past year, Dell converted $131.7 billion worth of AI server orders into revenue. Fortune Business Insights estimates the AI server market could grow from $262 billion this year to almost $2.85 trillion in 2034.
The investment case hinges on Dell converting its backlog and pipeline into revenue as Nvidia's growth continues. If AI infrastructure spending grows as projected, Dell's order book could support further revenue growth, though that depends on customer demand and execution. Analysts have also raised long-term earnings growth expectations for Dell over the past year.
