Google announces Googlebook, an AI-focused laptop combining Chrome, Android apps, and a new operating system optimized for Gemini

Google introduced Googlebook, a new category of laptops designed around Gemini AI, featuring Chrome browser, Android apps from Google Play Store, and an AI-optimized operating system. The company positions this as an evolution from operating systems to intelligence systems, more than fifteen years after launching Chromebooks.

Key features include Magic Pointer (developed with Google DeepMind), which gives the cursor intelligent capabilities to suggest actions automatically based on screen content—such as creating meetings from detected email dates—and 'Create your Widget', a tool that generates custom widgets through natural language commands by accessing Gmail and Google Calendar. Googlebook also offers deeper integration with Android smartphones, allowing apps installed on the phone to run directly on the laptop without local installation.

Googlebook will be manufactured in partnership with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. All models will feature a premium design and a distinctive visual element called 'Glowbar', and devices are expected to arrive in Autumn.
