Apple unveils overhauled AI-powered Siri assistant at WWDC 2026, transforming it from voice assistant into conversational AI chatbot

Apple unveiled the redesigned 'Siri AI' at its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday. The new assistant will be available in beta later this year and will launch alongside a dedicated Siri app.

Siri can now draw on current world knowledge and access information on a user's device to respond based on what's displayed on their screen. The assistant includes a 'Write with Siri' option that can reflect how users communicate with specific colleagues or friends. On macOS, Siri is integrated into Spotlight; on watchOS, users can ask questions and take action from their watch.

The transformation marks a major shift from Siri's role as a voice assistant to a full-fledged conversational AI chatbot comparable to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The assistant has been redesigned for modern iPhones and will live in the Dynamic Island with a new animation instead of the previous screen glow.
