Fashion designer Jeremy Scott tears up AI-written commencement speech at Kansas City Art Institute, receives applause

Scott began his May 16 address by reading an AI-generated speech with clichéd phrases like "threshold of a new beginning" and "power is limitless," then revealed it was AI-written and ripped up the pages to laughs and cheers from the audience.

Scott told students that AI "can't have an original idea" and "can't even differentiate the difference between a good idea, a unique idea, and one that's mediocre," contrasting this with human artists who have passion and can "decide what truth feels like."

Graduates have expressed unease about AI entering the workforce just as the technology remakes entry-level jobs and transforms how companies assess candidates; other recent commencement speakers drew backlash or boos when discussing AI, including former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.
