Perplexity brings AI agent to Windows PCs, expands after Mac launch

Perplexity has released Personal Computer for Windows, an agentic AI tool that runs directly on Windows devices and can act as a "general-purpose digital worker" to perform tasks on behalf of the user. Like the Mac version Perplexity launched in April, the Windows version can access local files and applications to carry out actions such as creating documents and updating spreadsheets. The new tool is designed to integrate with the Microsoft ecosystem: it can work across local files, Microsoft Office 365, and the web in a unified interface.

This launch extends Perplexity's broader push into enterprise AI workflows. In May, the company introduced integrations for Personal Computer with Microsoft 365 workspace apps and Teams video meeting software. The Windows launch now enables the agent to operate directly within the Windows environment itself, addressing what Perplexity sees as a critical blind spot for cloud-based AI: most enterprise work on Windows machines remains locally stored and "out of AI's reach." Perplexity framed the tool as built for the real-world complexity of how businesses actually work on local machines.

Personal Computer for Windows is rolling out to paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers effective immediately, with subscription tiers starting from $200 per month. The company has built in privacy and control measures designed to address enterprise concerns: the tool does not train on company data, and it always notifies users before executing sensitive actions such as sending emails or deleting files. These guardrails suggest Perplexity is positioning the agent as a trustworthy tool for organizations managing sensitive information on local systems.

Perplexity is methodically layering AI agent capabilities into the enterprise work stack. The company launched a Mac version of Personal Computer in April, then added integrations with Microsoft 365 and Teams in May—both critical business tools. Today's Windows launch closes what Perplexity identifies as a key gap: much enterprise work happens on local Windows machines, outside the cloud's traditional reach, and the company positions Personal Computer for Windows as built for "the often messy way enterprise work gets done on local machines." By running as a local agent rather than a cloud service, the tool can interact with files and apps that never leave the device, a design choice that may ease data governance concerns in regulated industries. The $200-per-month starting price targets enterprise buyers rather than individual consumers, signaling that Perplexity sees agentic AI as a premium productivity feature for organizations.
