Japan's ruling LDP proposes GPS devices for stalkers to protect victims

The Liberal Democratic Party submitted an urgent proposal to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Wednesday requiring stalkers to be fitted with GPS devices as a measure to protect victims, included within a broader proposal on preventing special fraud and stalking cases.

The proposal cited efforts in foreign countries to prevent repeat offenses through GPS tracking and argued the measure should be introduced to ensure victim safety while balancing the human rights of both perpetrators and victims.

Prime Minister Takaichi said the government will 'consider creating a new effective mechanism' to deal with stalking in response to the proposal.
