Cloudflare puts AI blocker in beehiiv dashboard

What happened

Cloudflare and beehiiv launched an integration that embeds Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control directly into the beehiiv dashboard. Writers can now toggle AI crawler access on or off, see which crawlers are knocking on the door, view what is being blocked, and check how much referral traffic those crawlers send back—all from a single dashboard instead of writing code.

Why it matters

Until now, blocking or allowing AI scrapers meant fiddling with robots.txt files or firewall rules, work most independent creators were never equipped to do. This integration puts the choice directly in front of newsletter operators, letting them decide whether to open their archives for AI distribution or hold content back for licensing deals. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince frames this as giving creators transparency and control to set their own terms with AI companies.

What to watch

The integration is live for beehiiv's approximately 135,000 publishers starting today. This is the latest step in Cloudflare's year-long campaign—in 2025 it turned on default AI-scraper blocking for new customers and launched a Pay Per Crawl marketplace where publishers can charge AI firms for access. Cloudflare also acquired Human Native Ltd. in January to expand licensed-content tooling for rights holders.
