Microsoft stock rose about 2% after a report said Anthropic is in talks to use Microsoft's Maia AI chips

Microsoft could rent servers powered by Maia to give Anthropic extra computing capacity for its Claude models, according to the report.

Maia is designed to speed up existing model use, but not to train new ones. The arrangement would help Microsoft broaden its AI hardware lineup and reduce reliance on Nvidia chips.

For Microsoft, a deal with Anthropic may demonstrate that its Maia platform is gaining traction and help it compete more directly with cloud rivals building their own AI chip strategies.
