Threads tests Meta AI integration that lets users mention the chatbot in posts to get real-time context on trends and news

Threads is testing a Meta AI feature currently in beta in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Argentina, and Singapore. Users with public accounts can mention Meta AI in a post or reply to receive real-time context about trends and breaking stories, as well as recommendations.

When Meta AI is mentioned, it processes the request and responds as a public reply from the @meta.ai account in the same language as the original post. Users can ask questions like "why are people talking about the World Cup this month?" or "whose Met Gala looks are trending right now?" and receive answers without leaving the app.

The feature mirrors Grok's role on X, though Meta notes that Meta AI has stronger safeguards in place. Users can mute @meta.ai, use the "Not interested" option on Meta AI posts, or hide Meta AI replies to reduce them in their feed.

Meta says it plans to learn from early feedback and continue improving the experience before expanding it to more people.
