Anthropic reportedly commits $200 billion to Google Cloud over five years for compute and custom chips

Reports from The Information indicate Anthropic has committed $200 billion over five years to Google Cloud for additional compute capacity and custom chips, though neither company has officially confirmed the exact dollar value.

Anthropic's partnership with Google Cloud includes up to 1 million TPUs (tensor processing units, custom AI-training chips) from a deal worth 'tens of billions of dollars,' and the company is bringing 1 gigawatt of capacity online this year. In the prior month, Anthropic and Alphabet also secured multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity coming online by 2027 with Broadcom.

Google Cloud's revenue reached $20 billion in the first quarter of 2026, up 63% year over year, and operating income tripled to $6.6 billion with margins expanding to 33%. Alphabet's cloud backlog doubled quarter over quarter to more than $460 billion at the end of the first quarter, representing contractual commitments that provide revenue visibility.
