Meta to cut nearly 1,400 workers across Washington state starting July 22 as part of AI-focused restructuring

Meta will terminate employees in Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond and remote positions across Washington state beginning July 22. Bellevue will see the largest cuts with 699 workers affected, followed by 231 remote employees statewide, 259 across two Seattle offices, and 206 in Redmond.

The layoffs span software engineers, data scientists, content designers and IT staff. Meta announced last week plans to eliminate roughly 10% of its workforce while shifting thousands of workers into AI-focused roles and business critical priorities.

Meta employed nearly 78,000 workers globally at the end of March. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has positioned artificial intelligence as central to the company's future strategy as Meta commits billions toward data centers, advanced chips and internal AI tools.
