Top Companies' AI Moves

The Gist
Intel jumped 14% on hopes that Meta's Muse AI will boost chip demand, while Bank of America slipped 1.3% on fears AI agents could pull deposits away from banks. Morgan Stanley named Nvidia its top pick with a $300 target, and Apple's RLTL;DR technique turned failed attempts into 14–31% Pass@1 results.
Today's Stories

Intel jumps 14% to $123.82 as Meta's Muse AI lifts chip demand hopes
Intel jumped as much as 14% intraday to $123.82 and gained over 11% after Meta's Muse AI agent boosted expectations for CPU-heavy AI data-center workloads. Traders are repricing the company's role in AI infrastructure, even though it still posts negative net income and thin margins.
The rally hinges on whether AI enthusiasm holds or guidance disappoints, given a price-to-sales ratio above 11. Watch whether Intel can sustain gains after logging roughly 13% weekly gains.

Bank of America falls 1.3% as AI agents loom over deposits
Bank of America shares fell about 1.3% to $53.72 on October 1 after Reuters Breakingviews raised the possibility that AI agents could make customers quicker to move cash into higher-yielding accounts. If customers move cash faster, that pressure lands on a valuable banking advantage: customers who leave their money parked, which supports funding economics.
This is a scenario, not evidence of an AI-driven deposit exodus, so the investor test is deposit pricing, checking-account retention and net interest income.

Morgan Stanley names Nvidia Top Pick, $300 target
Morgan Stanley reinstated Nvidia as its Top Pick in semiconductors after meetings with CEO Jensen Huang and CFO Colette Kress, keeping an Overweight rating and a $300 price target. The note credits Nvidia's diverse customers — traditional hyperscalers plus frontier AI labs — and its focus on revenue per gigawatt of power deployed, which the firm says all play to Nvidia's strengths.
Barclays' Tom O'Malley separately said Nvidia's hyperscaler revenue could run above his firm's current estimates, so the debate is whether that upside shows up. Nvidia hit a fresh record above $237 on Friday.

GE Vernova to lift output toward 24 gigawatts in 2028
GE Vernova expects to raise gas-turbine production from about 20 gigawatts a year today to 24 gigawatts in 2028, and potentially 30 gigawatts by 2030. Management says much of that future capacity is already sold, so equipment scarcity appears to be giving the company pricing power, with first-half gas equipment orders priced more than 20% above late-2025 levels.
The test is whether GE Vernova can expand capacity fast enough without giving up the pricing and margins that make the opportunity attractive.

Apple's RLTL;DR turns failed attempts into a 14–31% Pass@1
Apple researchers' RLTL;DR method has a policy write a TL;DR insight after each failed attempt, then backpropagates so the model internalizes a direct task-to-insight mapping. On tool-calling and coding datasets filtered to Pass@128 = 0, it achieved a Pass@1 of 14–31% with insights in context, and 12–13% without. Standard GRPO training stayed flat at a Pass@1 of 0% to 1% on these datasets, so letting the model generate and internalize its own feedback appears to overcome a learning barrier where no teacher models or example solutions exist.
The paper attributes the gain to task-to-insight internalization, and a reduced SFTL;DR variant training on only 4k (task, insight) tuples recovers almost the full performance, suggesting a compacted training paradigm worth watching.

Johnson & Johnson pushes Botaretigene sparoparvovec, AI repurposing
Johnson & Johnson advanced its gene therapy candidate Botaretigene sparoparvovec for X-linked retinitis pigmentosa in ongoing regulatory and clinical processes. It also expanded AI-driven drug repurposing programs for oncology and rare diseases. These moves extend Johnson & Johnson beyond autoimmune and oncology into rare inherited eye disease and under-served indications, and may reuse its existing R&D and commercial infrastructure rather than starting from scratch, according to the article.
The outcome hinges on whether Johnson & Johnson can truly shift its mix toward durable specialty therapies, as the article says this is what its Narrative is trying to test. It flags risks around tariffs, litigation and STELARA competition.
What to Watch
Going forward, watch whether AI enthusiasm can keep supporting high valuations or whether guidance disappoints, and whether Intel can hold onto its recent gains. Also keep an eye on whether Nvidia’s reported upside from major cloud customers shows up, whether GE Vernova can grow capacity without sacrificing pricing and margins, and whether Johnson & Johnson can truly shift its mix toward durable specialty therapies.
