Top Companies' AI Moves

The Gist
Home Depot launched an AI shopping assistant, while AMD agreed to buy Fei-Fei Li's World Labs for $8.2 billion and NVIDIA rolled out an open platform for AI agent safety with Cisco onboard. Bank of America added Payments Insights to its CashPro treasury suite, and a new Netflix documentary, "The AI Doc," argues AI's risks and benefits cannot be separated.
Today's Stories

Home Depot (NYSE:HD) rolls out AI assistant for shoppers
Kalkine Media reports that Home Depot (NYSE:HD) is introducing an AI assistant for its retail operations. The move suggests large retailers are betting AI can improve customer service, though the article offers no performance data.
Whether the assistant reaches customers beyond a pilot, and what Home Depot may say on its next earnings call.

'The AI Doc' on Netflix: AI's peril and promise inseparable
Daniel Roher's Netflix documentary 'The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist' presents both AI safety experts warning of doomsday scenarios and techno-optimists like Extropic AI CEO Guillaume Verdon who say it's never been a better time to be born. The film argues AI's risk and its potential to advance medical research, climate solutions, healthcare and education cannot be separated, and the experts interviewed agree that transparency, guardrails, independent oversight, and regulations are necessary.
The who and how of governing AI remain up in the air, so the outcome hinges on whether public pressure on politicians and companies translates into concrete international cooperation — or whether competition among distrustful companies lets speed trump safety.

NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform targets AI agent trust
NVIDIA announced the NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform, an open software platform and reference design to secure AI agents from testing to deployment. IBM supports it with Agent Identity, HashiCorp Vault, Identity Protection and Storage. Enterprises deploying agents face two questions the prompt cannot answer: how to let an agent act without giving up control, and how to prove what it did. Enforcement must sit in the runtime and hardware, not the prompt.
Trust hinges on whether controls actually hold when an agent is compromised, since agents can ignore instructions or fall to prompt injection. NVIDIA Sentry can quarantine agents in milliseconds.

AMD to buy Fei-Fei Li's World Labs for $8.2 billion
AMD said Monday it agreed to acquire World Labs, Fei-Fei Li's San Francisco AI lab, for about $8.2 billion in an all-stock deal. Li, its founder, becomes AMD's chief scientist and an executive vice president. AMD gets that research in-house.
The lab will stay separate from AMD's chipmaking business until the transaction closes later this year, so the payoff hinges on when that close happens. Watch whether AMD's AI chips end up shaped by the next-generation model research.

BofA adds Payments Insights to CashPro treasury suite
Bank of America announced Payments Insights, a new CashPro capability that analyzes payment efficiency, cross-border flows and working-capital performance and compares a company's results with industry peers. The tool is meant to cut time spent assembling and sorting data, so staff can spend more on deciding what to do with it, and it sits alongside cash forecasting and fraud-security scoring.
Whether treasury teams are retrained fast enough to use it, as Deloitte says agentic AI is moving beyond pilots to orchestrate entire workflows; CashPro processed 213 million payments in the first half of 2026, up 10% from a year earlier.

NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform targets agent trust, Cisco joins
NVIDIA announced its NVIDIA Open Agent Safety Platform, combining OpenShell open-source software for secure agent execution with the Sentry reference system design, an out-of-band watchdog on NVIDIA BlueField-4 DPUs. Cisco is collaborating on an agentic trust solution using it alongside Hypershield, AI Defense, and Splunk. The pitch is that agent trust is an engineering problem, not a sentiment, and that controlling agents needs external control with full context rather than a harness. If that holds, it shapes how much autonomy enterprises can safely grant agents.
Cisco says no single vendor can solve this, so the outcome hinges on whether standards-based, multi-vendor control actually converges into one system of record for agentic policy. Watch whether Sentry's attested telemetry and Splunk correlation deliver that single view.
What to Watch
For everyday users, the big question is whether these AI assistants move beyond limited tests to reach real customers at scale — and what Home Depot says on its next earnings call will be a key signal. Just as important is whether rules and safeguards can keep pace with the technology, so watch whether pressure on governments and companies turns into real international cooperation, or whether competitive speed ends up outpacing safety.
