The Gist
Caterpillar is teaming up with FieldAI to bring physical AI into heavy industry, while analysts see buy opportunities in Intuitive Surgical and Aptiv, boosted by an NVIDIA tie-up. Skild’s S1 robot can learn new tasks from a single video, and OpenAI’s CEO confirms the company will build humanoid robots. Meanwhile, Lockheed Martin demonstrated an AI-driven 5G drone defense system, signaling that robotics and AI are now central to both factory floors and national security.

Caterpillar partners with FieldAI for physical AI
Caterpillar has entered a collaboration with FieldAI to advance physical AI, autonomy, and robotics on jobsites and in manufacturing facilities. The pair has identified early uses such as autonomous inspections, digital twins, and operational optimization. The partnership applies AI to heavy industry where labor shortages and productivity demands are pressing. It builds on Caterpillar's 30-plus years of autonomy work, including its autonomous mining fleet moving over 11 billion tonnes of material.
Success hinges on FieldAI's ability to deploy in complex industrial environments where traditional automation has fallen short. The collaboration also leverages NVIDIA's accelerated computing and Omniverse, extending a relationship Caterpillar deepened in mining AI earlier in 2026.

Intuitive Surgical Stock: Buy Zone at $365-370, Long-Term Bull Case
Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) is currently in a consolidation phase near $365–370 per share, which the analysis identifies as a first entry zone. Revenue reached $10.06 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to $16.83 billion by 2029. The company's moat rests on a multi-layered, self-reinforcing ecosystem: 20+ million surgeries' worth of data, high switching costs for surgeons, and consumables/service contracts representing over 80% of total revenue. The da Vinci 5 platform has 10,000× the computing power of the previous generation, supporting AI features like real-time tissue sensing.
The bull case hinges on continued procedure growth in general surgery and international markets, plus expansion of Ion and da Vinci 5 platforms. A market-wide correction to the $285–290 demand zone could present a dollar-cost averaging opportunity, while the forward P/E is expected to compress from 63.42× in 2025 to 23.67× by 2029.

Aptiv 39% undervalued? NVIDIA tie-up helps
Aptiv announced support for NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 2, extending its edge AI collaboration for drones, robotics, and autonomous systems. The stock is down 30.8% over the past 90 days and 38.9% year to date. The most widely followed narrative pegs Aptiv's fair value at $78.21 per share, versus a recent close around $47.95, implying about 39% upside. This rests on expectations of higher earnings power from auto electronics, software, and non-auto exposure, especially aerospace, defense, and industrial bookings.
Whether Aptiv can deliver on the margin reset and earnings growth that the fair value forecast assumes. A short-term rebound (3.1% 1-day, 4.8% 7-day) hints at improving sentiment, but weaker global auto production or tougher competition in ADAS and cockpit systems could derail the narrative.

Skild S1 robot model learns new jobs from one video
Skild AI says its S1 robot foundation model can watch a human demonstrate an unfamiliar job once, then attempt it on a robot without updating model weights. Examples include potting a plant and flipping pancakes, with tasks lasting up to ten minutes. Skild estimates that matching S1's single-video performance through additional training would take about 380 teleoperated demonstrations, equivalent to 50–100 hours. This suggests teams could spend less time assembling an initial task dataset and begin evaluating robots sooner, though actual deployment savings remain unmeasured.
In Skild's controlled comparison at 100,000 hours of pretraining, demonstration prompting scored 66%, compared with 9% for language prompting. However, the score averages cumulative success across task steps and includes human recovery interventions, leaving unresolved how often a robot completes an entire job without assistance.

OpenAI CEO says company will build humanoid robots
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in an August 26 TIME interview that OpenAI would “definitely” make humanoid robots. A job posting visible as of September 6 describes an effort integrating hardware and software across multiple robot forms. Building the body could give OpenAI more control over how its intelligence is developed and deployed. It would also bring responsibility for the machinery that turns a model’s decisions into movement, and could support a cycle of collecting training data, revising models, and testing on the same hardware.
A complete OpenAI humanoid would bring it into more direct competition with Figure and Tesla. The posting does not establish a release date, a shipping product, or the program’s size or output.

Lockheed Martin, partners demo AI-enabled 5G drone defense system
Lockheed Martin and its partners demonstrated an AI-enabled 5G system designed to protect against drones. The demonstration shows how AI and 5G can be used together for drone defense, potentially enhancing security measures.
Further developments or deployments of this system could follow as the technology is refined.
What to Watch
Watch for whether FieldAI and Caterpillar can prove robotics in real industrial settings, and whether Skild’s , OpenAI’s, or Aptiv’s ambitions translate into products that finish whole jobs on their own—those milestones, not share prices, will signal which bets are real.
