AI Safety & Alignment

The Gist

CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks are rolling out security tools aimed at protecting AI agents, while music publishers are suing Anthropic over copyrighted lyrics used in its models. Meanwhile, Anthropic is letting regulators and fact-checkers inspect how it detects AI-written text, as governments like Suginami Ward turn to external experts for help fighting fake news. The industry is moving from debating risks to actively building the guardrails.

Today's Stories

  1. 1

CrowdStrike Falcon Guardian Targets AI Security

CrowdStrike is introducing Falcon Guardian, its flagship solution for the AI Detection and Response (AIDR) category, to secure AI agents. It includes a new AI gateway capability for centralized control, and extends threat hunting and MDR services to AI applications. Falcon Guardian connects AI agent activity with endpoint telemetry, establishing a causal chain from prompt to runtime behavior. This helps security teams understand what agents do, investigate threats, and respond before they spread, addressing the need for visibility and control as AI agents take action in enterprise systems.

The AI gateway is currently pre-beta and will go to GA next quarter (Q4). CrowdStrike Falcon Complete for Falcon Guardian will be available later this quarter (Q3), while Falcon Adversary OverWatch Cross-Domain is available today.

  2. 2

Palo Alto Networks pitches Authority-Aware DLP for AI agents

Palo Alto Networks is promoting a security strategy called Authority-Aware DLP for AI agents, moving beyond traditional data loss prevention that only covers manual uploads. The approach targets three risk layers: human-to-AI, agent-to-tool via MCP, and agent-to-agent via A2A. Traditional security misses context, such as whether an app is approved but the account or data use is not. AI agents can retrieve and share sensitive data without a user manually uploading files, so security must follow the AI data path across endpoints, AI runtime, and firewalls.

Palo Alto Networks embeds this via Prisma Access, Prisma AIRS AI Runtime Security, and Next-Generation Firewalls. The company offers an audit of local agent footprint and inspection of hidden MCP traffic.

  3. 3

Music Publishers Sue Anthropic Over Lyrics Copyright

Music publishers affiliated with Sony and Warner have filed a lawsuit against Anthropic, accusing it of copyright infringement on a scale described as one of the largest intellectual property thefts in history. The suit claims Anthropic obtained pirated copies of lyrics and scraped lyrics from the web. This case highlights the legal risks AI companies face when training models on copyrighted material without permission. The outcome could set a precedent for how AI firms use existing creative works, affecting the broader AI industry's approach to data sourcing.

The lawsuit alleges both unauthorized acquisition of pirated content and systematic scraping of lyrics, which could lead to significant legal and financial consequences for Anthropic if the court rules against it.

  4. 4

NRI sees AI as small slice of emerging tech risk

Nomura Research Institute (NRI) held its 413th media forum on August 28, 2026, where NRI Secure Technologies' group manager Takumi Kimura explained security risks from emerging technologies. Kimura stressed that AI is only a small part of emerging technology overall, with digital twins, quantum tech, biotechnology, robotics, and brain-machine interfaces (BMI) also poised to reshape society. The UK DSIT's 2025 study highlighted how technology convergence can create unexpected security threats.

The forum warned that combining AI with digital twins could allow faulty data injections to cause physical damage and even life-threatening harm. Robotics and BMI integration raises concerns about potential future extraction of sensitive brainwave data such as thoughts and emotions.

Suginami Ward to Hire External Advisor for AI-era Fake News

Suginami Ward, Tokyo, announced it will appoint one external advisor starting November to handle fake information on social media during disasters. The move responds to rising risks from generative AI. The advisor will train ward staff in information literacy and provide advice during incidents. The ward has budgeted 750,000 yen for the role, reflecting growing concern over misinformation spread.

The advisor's term runs from November through March next year, with duties about five times a month. Candidates include former police officers and lawyers with crisis management expertise.

Anthropic opens Claude AI text detection to regulators, media, fact-checkers, and others

Anthropic is launching its watermark verification API, letting approved organizations check whether text contains a digital watermark from Claude. The EU AI Act since August 2, 2025, requires new Claude models to embed invisible watermarks in their text output, making this detection system a compliance tool for regulators, law enforcement, media, fact-checkers, independent researchers, educational organizations, EU civil society groups, and enterprises.

Anthropic plans to expand access over time. The system builds on Google's SynthID text method, tweaking word-selection randomness to create a statistically detectable pattern that, according to Anthropic, "may persist through some editing."

What to Watch

Going forward, watch for the general release of the AI gateway and the rollout of CrowdStrike’s new managed protection offerings, as well as how courts handle the copyright lawsuit against Anthropic—both could reshape enterprise adoption and legal precedent. Also keep an eye on emerging warnings about AI-driven physical safety risks and the gradual expansion of Anthropic’s invisible watermarking, which may quietly become a new standard for tracking AI-generated text.
