OpenAI president testifies Musk backed for-profit conversion but sought full control to raise $80 billion for Mars colonization

Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president, testified in court on Tuesday that Elon Musk supported transforming OpenAI into a for-profit company but wanted full control in part to help him raise $80 billion to colonize Mars.

The testimony occurred during the second week of a trial in California over Musk's lawsuit regarding OpenAI's for-profit conversion, a case that could determine the future of the company that launched ChatGPT in late 2022.

OpenAI plans to spend $50 billion on computing resources in 2026, according to Brockman's court statement.
