Microsoft announces A$25 billion investment in Australia's AI and cloud infrastructure through the end of 2029

On April 23, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced an A$25 billion investment alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to expand Azure AI supercomputing and cloud capacity, representing the company's largest-ever investment in the country.

Microsoft's existing cloud footprint in Australia will grow by more than 140% through deployment of advanced AI processors and expanded data center operations, underpinned by a commitment to 100% renewable energy and water-positive operations by 2030.

Microsoft will collaborate with the Australian AI Safety Institute to monitor advanced AI systems, and will provide three million Australians with workforce-ready AI skills by 2028 through programs including 'Elevate for Educators' and a partnership with youth platform Anyway.
