What happened
Global X began trading the Global X LLM ETF (NASDAQ:LLMA) on Sept. 29, charging a 0.75% net expense ratio, one of five ETFs launched that day.
Why it matters
The launch offers a way to bet on language models specifically, though the best-known model builders remain private, so it must hold listed companies instead.
What to watch
LLMA has no published portfolio, so its holdings, index approach, and asset growth are unknown; its first holdings disclosure will show whether it lives up to its label.
WHO IT HITSInvestors and financial advisors weighing AI-themed ETFs face a decision between LLMA's language-model focus and AIQ's memory-heavy tilt, and need to check expense ratios and current holdings before choosing.

Global X's launch of LLMA on Sept. 29 marks a further narrowing of AI investing themes. The company already runs AIQ, a fund that as of May 31 counted $10.85 billion in assets and was up 27.9% year to date, trading at $65.05 on Sept. 29. That fund's returns were driven by memory chipmakers, not the AI software names most investors associate with the boom: Micron shares rose 274.22% this year and Intel 214.36%, while Nvidia gained 22.45%. The memory story rests on a supply squeeze, with Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra saying in June that demand continues to significantly exceed supply and he expects tight conditions to persist beyond calendar 2027. LLMA, by contrast, targets the language-model slice directly, but arrives with no portfolio published, no track record, and a crowded field of more than 4,300 U.S. ETFs competing for attention. The open question is whether LLMA can deliver the exposure its name implies when the purest language-model businesses remain private.
