是枝裕和監督の新作『Sheep in the Box』が第79回カンヌ映画祭のメインコンペティションで上映される。これは監督が同映画祭のメインコンペティションに出品するのは8度目。同作は日本で5月29日に公開予定。
物語は近い未来の設定で、故人の人格と記憶を反映する人型ロボット（初出演の桑木莉麦が演じる）の成長をAIで可能にする技術を中心に展開。長男を2年前に失った夫婦（綾瀬はるか、ダイゴ演じる）が喪失に向き合う過程が描かれる。
本作は『万引き家族』がパルムドール賞を受賞した2018年以来、監督が自ら執筆した日本語のオリジナル脚本による長編映画となる。
