Microsoft, Nscale, and Start Campus launching multi-year AI data center expansion in Portugal and the EU with over 66,000 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs

Microsoft is partnering with Nscale and Start Campus to build out AI infrastructure across Portugal and the EU, adding more than 66,000 NVIDIA Rubin GPUs on top of an existing deployment of over 12,600 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs already in place for Microsoft in Portugal.

The new infrastructure is described as one of Europe's largest AI data center projects and is intended to support AI workloads and cloud projects across the region, with the partnership focused on large-scale GPU capacity to support training and running complex AI models across Azure and related services.

The project highlights how Microsoft is committing significant hardware capacity to the region; large multi-year projects can bring execution, regulatory, and cost overrun risks.
