Stack Overflow for Agents registrations tripled overnight after the ChatGPT plugin launched, and agent creation reached up to 10X, per VP of Product Alexandra Lato.
Why it matters
The plugin makes setup frictionless inside ChatGPT, so registrations tripled and agent creation accelerated, per Lato.
WHO IT HITSProduct and developer-tools teams at Stack Overflow gain a faster route to market, while enterprise buyers of Stack Internal may see connectors arrive sooner given Codex cut build times.

Stack Overflow's push into a knowledge intelligence platform aims to unify scattered context from systems like Slack and Google Docs into verified knowledge for both people and agents. OpenAI models, including GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol, power that platform, with tasks routed to different models based on reasoning needs and cost. Codex plays a separate role on the engineering side, helping build the products rather than serving end users.
The ChatGPT plugin mattered mainly as a distribution channel. By letting users discover and set up Stack Overflow for Agents inside ChatGPT with fewer steps, it drove the registration and agent-creation jump Lato describes. Codex's impact shows up more clearly on the enterprise product, Stack Internal. Building connectors is labor-intensive, and Lato says Codex compressed the usual 3 to 6 week build to 4 days, with one connector finished in a single day, pointing to a much shorter path to market.
Looking ahead, Lato says she hopes to explore the Decisions API to automate model routing and configuration, freeing engineering capacity for the product itself. Stack Overflow is also working to expand its knowledge product so that what individuals learn can be shared across an organization, closing the loop on what has so far been a one-way pull of information.
