eternal.ag and Rijk Zwaan collaborate to identify tomato varieties suited for robotic greenhouse automation

eternal.ag, a robotics firm, and Rijk Zwaan, a seed breeder, are exploring which tomato varieties can support robotic crop work in greenhouses by combining Rijk Zwaan's breeding expertise with eternal.ag's robotics and AI capabilities.

The collaboration will identify plant traits such as improved fruit accessibility and plant topologies that enable consistent robotic performance in high-tech greenhouses, and will be demonstrated at Rijk Zwaan's trial center in De Lier (the Netherlands) during the week of 8 June 2026.

The partnership responds to labor shortages impacting greenhouse operations and food production globally, aiming to contribute to more scalable and predictable greenhouse operations as automation becomes essential.
