Context & Analysis

Blueprints AI founder Al Drams originally wrote a college thesis about software that could generate design documents for school buildings two decades ago. The technology needed did not exist then. After OpenAI released ChatGPT in November 2022, he launched the concept of Blueprints AI within six months, and incorporated the company in Santa Monica in 2025 with co-founder Coco Cao.

To train its models, the pair used eight years of approved drawing sets from Drams' own design and construction firm. Drams and Cao say the tool does not replace licensed architects, but handles the repetitive drafting work that fills most of an architect's day.

The startup's first-generation software already produces architectural construction documents and is priced between $3,200 to $8,500 a month depending on the plan. Drams and Cao are targeting professional architecture, engineering, and design firms as well as developers and real estate owners with the new version. Blueprints AI was selected for the 2026 Startup Battlefield 200 and is exhibiting at TechCrunch Disrupt from October 13 to 15 in San Francisco.
