NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang says AI is spurring software engineering hiring, not job losses, citing $9 trillion productivity potential per engineer

Speaking with Bloomberg on June 1, Huang called the narrative of AI-driven layoffs 'Complete nonsense' and stated that 'The number of engineers, software engineers, is actually increasing.'

Huang argued that if a software engineer can generate $9 trillion worth of productive work via AI tools, companies have strong incentive to hire more engineers rather than reduce headcount.

In Q1 FY2027 (reported May 20, 2026), NVIDIA delivered revenue of $81.615 billion, up 85.23% year over year; Data Center revenue alone hit $75.246 billion, up 92% YoY, with guidance for Q2 FY2027 calling for $91.0 billion in revenue, plus or minus 2%.

Huang described agentic AI (AI systems that autonomously plan and execute tasks) as already 'doing productive work, generating real value and scaling rapidly across companies and industries.'
