Google made Deep Review globally available, free for up to two document reviews a week, after pilot reviews of over 15,000 papers with STOC 2026, ICML 2026, NeurIPS 2026 and ICLR 2027.
Why it matters
This gives researchers, engineers and professionals an AI tool to check documents before submission, although Google says it supports rather than replaces human expert judgment.
WHO IT HITSResearchers submitting to major AI conferences and engineers writing design documents can use Deep Review to catch errors before submission, though Google positions it as support for human judgment rather than a replacement.

Google originally built Deep Review as the Paper Assistant Tool (PAT) to review papers before conference submission. It ran pilots with STOC 2026, ICML 2026, NeurIPS 2026 and ICLR 2027 covering more than 15,000 papers, independent of the conferences' formal peer review.
In a Google research paper, PAT detected 89.7% of 29 errors in 26 math and computer science papers where errors had previously been found. Regular use of Gemini 3.1 Pro detected 55.2% on the same evaluation. In the ICML 2026 pilot, 35.4% of survey respondents said they were told of a major theoretical problem, and 31% ran new experiments after a PAT comment.
The public Deep Review handles more than papers, including software design documents, presentations, legal documents and financial materials. It adds Gemini 4 Argon support, and Google says detection ability improved over PAT. Google also introduced multi-agent document review features based on Deep Review into its Antigravity development environment.
Google notes AI reviews are not always right. In the PAT pilot, cases appeared where it flagged nonexistent problems or judged correct mathematical proofs as wrong. Google says it is working to improve these issues.
