PMDesk, a macOS app for running multiple projects with AI agents, now lets users type "@" in its terminal to open a popup that filters files by name and inserts the path on Enter.
Why it matters
Users can insert a file path right where they are typing, so the instructions they send to an AI agent can continue without a separate trip to track down the file — a gap the developer says was costing time.

The real bottleneck in working with AI agents is logistics rather than instruction-writing: the time goes into opening folders one by one, copying a path, or tracing a document through a browser and downloading it. The developer describes the situation as one where client materials, project documents and agent-generated plans end up scattered across different places, and built the "@" search as a way to collapse that back-and-forth into a single keystroke.
The design choices reflect that goal. Once a path is inserted, the user simply continues typing the instruction behind it and sends the whole thing. A separate folder tab, reached with ⌘→, covers the case where the name is forgotten, showing project folders and client-material folders as two tree branches. Folders beginning with a dot, such as .git, are kept out of that tree, though the search tab can still surface them.
The scope is deliberately narrow. The feature works only on macOS and only over folders registered in PMDesk, and the developer notes that the agent replies visible in the screens are fixed samples prepared for illustration — so the demo shows the input flow rather than live agent output.
