Interactive Brokers opens accounts to any MCP-compatible AI app

On July 17, 2026, Interactive Brokers, a major electronic trading platform, released version 1.1.5 of IBKR Connector. The update fundamentally changes how retail traders can access their accounts through AI applications by enabling integration with any tool that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Previously, Interactive Brokers offered official connectors limited to ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok. With this release, traders can now extend that access to a much wider range of AI tools, including Claude Code, Cursor, and ChatGPT Workspaces, as well as any other MCP-compatible application. The setup process is straightforward: users navigate to their AI application's settings, locate the option to add an MCP server, and input the Remote MCP Server URL https://api.ibkr.com/v1/api/mcp-public. After entering that URL, traders are guided through Interactive Brokers' standard authentication and authorization workflow.

Security and user control remain central to the design. Interactive Brokers explicitly states that trader credentials are never shared with the AI application itself. Instead, the connection operates through a secure protocol that keeps sensitive login information on Interactive Brokers' servers. Traders who wish to disconnect an AI tool at any time can do so through the Client Portal, navigating to Settings > Manage Third-Party Consents, where they can revoke access instantly. This architecture gives users confidence that third-party AI applications cannot store or misuse their trading credentials.

Interactive Brokers has expanded its AI integration strategy by embracing the Model Context Protocol, a standard that allows different AI applications to communicate with external services. Rather than limiting traders to official connectors on a handful of platforms, the company is now enabling any MCP-compatible AI tool to access IBKR accounts. This shift reflects a broader industry trend toward interoperability and open standards in fintech, allowing developers and end users to choose their preferred AI interface while maintaining a single brokerage account.

The move addresses a practical constraint traders face: previously, they would need to switch between different AI applications or rely on proprietary connectors. By supporting MCP, Interactive Brokers positions itself as a backend service that integrates seamlessly into the user's existing AI workflow, whether that workflow centers on ChatGPT, Claude, or emerging tools like Cursor. The security architecture—where credentials remain with Interactive Brokers and users retain granular consent controls—suggests the company is prioritizing user control and data protection as a competitive advantage.
