Google Cloud announced Gemini Agent, a cloud-based multi-agent tool. Shubham Saboo said on X it runs each task on the best-suited model, currently Gemini 4 Argon plus Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5.
Why it matters
Google's new agent tool is not tied to one model, and Saboo said more closed and open models will be added later. What this means for buyers is that model choice sits inside one Google Cloud service.
WHO IT HITSTeams that build cloud AI workflows will be able to route tasks across Google and Anthropic models from a single tool, though it is still unclear which plans include access.

Gemini Agent is a cloud-based multi-agent tool, which means it coordinates several AI models to carry out a task. Its stated selling point is that it does not lock users into a single model: each task is routed to whichever model fits, according to Google's Shubham Saboo. At launch that list already spans two rival vendors — Google's own Gemini 4 Argon and Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 and Claude Sonnet 5.5 — and Saboo said other closed and open models are due to be added.
What Google Cloud has not addressed is positioning. The announcement does not say how Gemini Agent relates to the existing Gemini app or Gemini Enterprise, nor which consumer or business plans will actually offer it. Pricing, too, is still open. ITmedia AI+ has asked Google Cloud Japan about both the links to existing services and any plan to offer Gemini Agent in Japan, and said it will report once it receives an answer.
