OpenAI's Codex gains Appshots feature for Mac, letting users send app window content directly to the coding assistant

Mac users can now press both Command keys to send the active window's contents to OpenAI's Codex coding assistant, which receives both a screenshot and the underlying text, including content outside the visible scroll area.

Codex can access API docs, emails, design drafts, and error messages directly without users having to copy or describe them; for some services like Google Docs or Gmail, it may capture only the visible screenshot. The feature requires macOS permissions for screen recording and accessibility features.

Appshots complements the Computer Use function announced in April and, unlike Computer Use, is not affected by the regional ban covering the EEA, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. The feature works across all plans.
