Meta lays off 10% of workforce as Zuckerberg warns 'success isn't a given' and shifts 7,000 employees into AI roles

Meta announced a 10% workforce reduction in a company-wide memo on Wednesday, with 7,000 employees to be transferred into AI roles. The layoffs and transfers combined are thought to impact about 20% of the company's total workforce.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that 'AI is the most consequential technology of our lifetimes' and that the company expects no further company-wide layoffs this year. He also acknowledged the company needs to improve its communication with staff.

In a separate legal outcome, a court in New Mexico found Meta liable for concealing knowledge of child sexual exploitation on its platforms and ordered the company to pay $375m in damages. Meta said it disagreed with the ruling and would appeal.
