Apple introduces Siri AI with multi-step conversational abilities and Google-powered model update, rolling out this fall

At its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced 'Siri AI'—an updated voice assistant coming in OS updates 'this fall'—alongside a new Google-powered on-device Foundation Model and tighter integration across Apple's operating systems.

Siri AI can handle multi-step conversations that bounce between apps and tasks without manual juggling; it accesses 'personal context' from messages, email, and photos on your device, uses web search via private cloud compute for 'world knowledge,' and includes new features like visual intelligence from the camera app, automatic proofreading system-wide, and a 'Write with Siri' text generation tool.

The company introduced a two-tier model structure: the 'most capable model' requires iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPad with M4+ and 12GB+ memory, or Mac with M3+ and 12GB+ memory; less capable devices get a reduced-feature version. Conversations are stored locally and via iCloud in a dedicated Siri app.
