Apple's rumored AirPods with cameras are nearing production validation, with prototypes currently in design testing stage

Apple testers are 'actively using' camera-equipped AirPod prototypes in the design validation test stage, one step before production validation testing, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The cameras are designed to capture low-resolution visual information that users can query Siri about—such as asking what to cook with available ingredients or getting turn-by-turn directions—rather than to take photos or video. The AirPods will resemble AirPods Pro 3 but with longer stems due to camera technology, and will feature a 'small' LED light to indicate when visual data is being fed into the cloud.

Apple initially targeted a launch in the first half of 2026 but delayed the product following delays to its upgraded Siri, which is 'on track' to arrive in September. The new AirPods may launch around the same timeframe as the improved Siri.
