Meta launches paid subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, plus a separate tiered AI product starting at $7.99 per month

Meta is rolling out paid add-ons globally: Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus at $3.99/month, WhatsApp Plus at $2.99/month, with cosmetic perks like story stats, custom icons, and super reactions. Separately, Meta One Plus ($7.99) and Meta One Premium ($19.99) offer compute, longer reasoning (the step where an AI produces an answer), and image/video generation—following the pricing model used by OpenAI and Google.

Testing of consumer AI tiers begins next month in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia. Creator and business plans ($14.99 and $49.99) are launching in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh.

The move is meant to reduce Meta's dependence on ad revenue and likely to justify its massive AI infrastructure spending to investors. Meta recently unveiled its new AI model Muse after running into problems with the Llama series.
