STMicroelectronics invests in Italian humanoid robot maker Oversonic

Oversonic Robotics has assembled a diverse investor consortium around RoBee—a robot already certified and operational in factories across Italy and beyond. The three new shareholders each bring distinct leverage: STMicroelectronics contributes semiconductor and industrial manufacturing expertise; Fondazione ENEA Tech Biomedical supports the healthcare certification pathway; and SpotInvest, linked to entrepreneur Marco Setti, opens doors in food industry automation. This structure reflects a deliberate strategy to build what the company calls a "virtuous circle" linking innovation, real-world deployment, and market access.

The timing and focus on U.S. expansion signal confidence that RoBee's certified status and proven factory deployment create a credible foundation for international scaling. Oversonic's leadership frames the goal explicitly: positioning the company among leading deep tech scale-ups in the cognitive humanoids market, leveraging Italy as the technological and industrial base while targeting Europe and the United States as the primary growth markets. For STMicroelectronics, the stake aligns with a broader industry shift toward embedding robotics and AI in production systems, reducing the technology company's exposure to chip-only plays and anchoring it in end-application value.
