Google unveils Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini Omni models at I/O 2026, with AI Search surpassing 1 billion monthly users

Gemini 3.5 Flash launched as generally available via the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and Android Studio. It outperforms Gemini 3.1 Pro on coding and agentic benchmarks including Terminal-Bench 2.1 (76.2%), GDPval-AA (1656 Elo), and MCP Atlas (83.6%). Gemini 3.5 Pro is in internal use and will roll out next month.

Gemini Omni is a new model that generates output from any input, starting with video. It combines generative media capabilities with physics understanding and includes SynthID digital watermark verification. Gemini Omni Flash is rolling out now to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers globally via the Gemini app and Google Flow, and is available at no cost in YouTube Shorts Remix and YouTube Create app for users 18+.

AI Mode in Search has surpassed 1 billion monthly users and now uses Gemini 3.5 Flash as the default model globally. A redesigned Search box supports text, images, files, videos and Chrome tabs. Information agents, rolling out this summer to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, monitor the web 24/7 to track topics and deliver synthesized updates.
