Meta Platforms enters 850 megawatts renewable energy agreements and launches private AI chat feature

On May 12, Meta Platforms entered into power purchase agreements with D.E Shaw Renewable Investments for 850 megawatts of renewable energy capacity: 500MW in Oklahoma, 200MW in Texas, and 150MW in Mississippi. The companies also contracted 2,575MW of solar and battery storage projects across the US.

Meta unveiled Incognito Chat with Meta AI, a private conversation feature on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app built on Private Processing. Messages are processed in a secure environment that Meta cannot access, ensuring conversations remain inaccessible to anyone, including Meta.

Meta stated the renewable energy push is part of its effort to add new generation capacity to electrical grids and bolster economic development in rural areas across the country.
