What happened
The Verge tested five RTX Spark N1X laptops from Asus, HP, Lenovo, and Microsoft, priced from $3,199.99 to $6,999.99, with 20 CPU cores and 6,144 GPU CUDA cores.
Why it matters
These laptops are meant for developers, coders, and content creators, but battery life of around five hours and heavy fan noise limit their appeal for everyday work.

Nvidia's RTX Spark N1X is the company's first Arm-based system-on-chip for laptops, and it arrives in a market already shaped by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chips, which helped push developers to create native Arm apps for Windows. Microsoft's Prism emulation layer now handles many older x86 apps without issue, so the software experience is no longer the main obstacle it once was.
The hardware itself impresses on build quality. The Verge's testers praise the haptic trackpads, OLED screens, and metal chassis across the Asus, HP, Lenovo, and Microsoft models. But the CPU side lags behind Apple's M-series chips in single-core and multicore performance, even though the GPU can match Apple in some rendering tasks. Nvidia chose MediaTek for the Arm-based CPU, and Tom Warren notes the company may need years of work to catch up on that front.
Local AI is a key selling point, yet the experience remains rough. Sean Hollister's attempt to build a daily news briefing with a local model took 10 minutes and 10 percent of the battery, while a cloud-based model finished faster and produced better results. The high price, loud fans, and short battery life mean these laptops are best suited for developers and creators who need powerful local AI and gaming in a portable form, rather than for everyday users.
