Google-funded Futures Lab at University of Waterloo produces student-built AI prototypes for learning and fitness

Students in an eight-week intensive AI and user experience prototyping workshop, led by Dr. Edith Law and funded by Google in partnership with the University of Waterloo, built working prototypes including Kanji Garden (an app teaching Japanese through AI-generated stories), SignFluent (a real-time American Sign Language learning tool with instant feedback), and MuscleMemory (a calisthenics training tool using AI camera tracking for audio feedback on exercise form).

The Futures Lab is described as a partnership between Google and the University of Waterloo where students from diverse fields including computer science, business, and natural sciences develop tools designed to reshape how people learn.

The lab moves beyond theory by having students co-create technology intended to define the future of education and work.
