agentgateway joins the Agentic AI Foundation as a fourth hosted project under the Linux Foundation, providing an open-source gateway for managing AI agent traffic alongside traditional application infrastructure.

agentgateway is an open-source gateway licensed under Apache 2.0, designed to manage MCP traffic, Agent-to-Agent communication, LLM inference, REST APIs, and gRPC services through a single operational layer. The project is available at agentgateway.dev and has 300+ active contributors across over 60 organizations including CoreWeave, Red Hat, Solo.io, Adobe, Salesforce, Amdocs, and Microsoft.

The gateway provides unified security controls (JWT authentication, API key auth, RBAC, external authorization, mTLS, CORS), built-in observability (metrics, tracing, access logging), and governance features (rate limiting, content-based routing, prompt guards, budget controls, model aliasing) that apply to both agent workflows and traditional application traffic.

By joining AAIF under Linux Foundation governance, agentgateway provides infrastructure for managing the operational challenges—security, governance, observability, and reliability—that organizations face as AI systems move from experiments into real operational environments.
