Why it matters
A listing that size would put the Claude maker among the world's most valuable companies, and it would land this year rather than slip.

Anthropic's push to go public follows a week of conflicting signals about timing. Reuters reported it had seen a copy of the company's IPO prospectus and said Anthropic was most likely to wait until just after the midterm elections on Nov. 3. Bloomberg's sources now point to the week of Nov. 9 for the start of formal marketing, with internal discussions still open and the company determined to list before the end of the year.
The financial picture in the prospectus is striking. Anthropic plans to spend $518 billion on AI infrastructure resources in the coming years. In fiscal 2025 it recorded an operating loss of more than $8 billion and a net loss of more than $42 billion, while revenue came to just $4.6 billion, up more than 12 times from the prior year. The document also devoted several pages to "existential risks to humanity," including models that could resist shutdown or engage in behavior "resembling blackmail" — themes Chief Executive Dario Amodei has raised publicly, having last month called on developers to "pace the frontier" by slowing frontier model development.
That tension between the safety warnings and the scale of the offering is what makes the timing consequential. Analysts have speculated that rising safety concerns could derail the multiyear AI boom that lifted shares of Nvidia Corp. and Micron Technology Inc., and a delay — as rival OpenAI Group PBC appears to have already made — could send a shockwave through other AI stocks, according to the article's framing.
