Russian air attacks on Ukrainian cities kill at least nine and wound more than 60

Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv occurred early Tuesday, following days of warnings that Moscow was planning a major assault. In Dnipro alone, five people were killed and 25 injured, according to regional Gov. Oleksandr Hanzha.

Russia has targeted Ukraine's power supply and infrastructure as part of the war now more than four years old. Ukraine has stepped up attacks this year on Russian oil facilities, and both sides deny targeting civilians.

The death toll represents the human cost of the ongoing conflict between the two countries, with casualties mounting from both air strikes and ground operations.
