Meta launches Meta Enterprise Platform, taps MongoDB CEO

Meta's launch of the Meta Enterprise Platform follows the earlier this month debut of Muse, Meta's personal AI assistant that can perform tasks such as sending emails and booking travel. The new platform extends Meta's AI efforts beyond consumer use into business and developer offerings, bundling Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, and Muse Code. Meta's decision to hire Chirantan "CJ" Desai from MongoDB underscores the company's intent to build a serious enterprise business.

Desai framed the opportunity in a statement, saying that AI will fundamentally redefine how organizations of all sizes innovate, grow, serve customers, and run business operations. He added that Meta has a unique role to play because it is bringing together advanced models and leading agents with a proven track record of helping millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses scale.

The immediate reaction at MongoDB was sharp: the database maker's shares dropped by more than 17% on the news of Desai's sudden departure. MongoDB appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim chief executive, who previously served in the role, while the board searches for a permanent replacement. The outcome for Meta hinges on whether it can turn its AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy, and whether the leadership transition at MongoDB stabilizes under Ittycheria.
