Microsoft reports 20 million paid M365 Copilot seats with usage growing nearly 20% quarter over quarter

M365 Copilot now has 20 million paid enterprise seats. Microsoft has quadrupled the number of companies paying for over 50,000 seats; Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, Mercedes, and Roche each have more than 90,000 seats. Accenture signed a deal for over 740,000 seats, described as Microsoft's largest Copilot win to date.

Copilot queries per user were up nearly 20% quarter over quarter, with weekly engagement now at the same level as Outlook. Agent mode—which allows Copilot to take multi-step actions directly in documents—became the default experience across Copilot, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as of last week.

Copilot supports multiple AI models by default with intelligent auto routing, including Anthropic's Claude, rather than depending on a single model.
