Summaries like this, every morning.
The transaction is part of a strategic compute capacity agreement that Broadcom had previously disclosed, and it brings four large financial institutions into the financing of AI hardware. The structure relies on a newly formed special purpose vehicle that will purchase Broadcom XPU AI accelerators and networking solutions and lease them to Anthropic. Bank of America, Citi and Morgan Stanley will arrange the first lien portion of the financing, while Blackstone will be the sole provider of the committed portion of the second lien financing. Broadcom will provide residual value support to the SPV for an amount equivalent to the first lien portion.
The announcement came the same day Anthropic officially filed for its long-awaited initial public offering, planning to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. Broadcom shares traded roughly 0.6% higher in after-hours trading Monday following the announcement. Jon Gray of Blackstone said the demand for AI is creating an opportunity to finance compute capacity at scale, and Hock Tan of Broadcom said the transaction validates that capital is available to finance such growth.
