3 Key Points

  1. Google announced at its I/O keynote that the search bar will dynamically expand as users type longer queries and offer AI-powered suggestions that go beyond autocomplete. AI Overviews can keep answering follow-up questions in AI Mode, generating custom summaries instead of traditional link lists.

  2. The company is rolling out new features including a Universal Cart for shopping across Search, Gemini, Gmail, and YouTube; custom 'information agents' that track things like sneaker drops or apartment listings; and a Daily Brief in Gemini that summarizes information from Gmail and Google Calendar. Gemini Spark allows users to create custom Google-powered agents.

  3. In Workspace, Gmail, Docs, and Keep will accept voice or text commands to parse inboxes, draft documents, or generate to-do lists. YouTube is testing an AI Mode-like experience that surfaces search results instead of a browseable video list. The new Gemini Omni models can create videos using other videos, images, and audio as prompts.
