Anthropic's 2026 figures, though preliminary, already suggest its 2025 losses may not reflect the company's current health. Reported revenue exceeding $11.5 billion in the second quarter of 2026 implies Anthropic generated roughly 2.5 times its entire 2025 revenue in a single quarter, and the same reports point to positive adjusted operating income. That growth, however, cuts against the quality of the revenue underlying it: most of it is usage-based, and many large customers can reduce spending without long-term contracts.
A separate channel detail matters here. Reuters reported that about $2.16 billion of 2025 revenue came through Amazon and Google's cloud marketplaces, against roughly $351 million in distribution fees — about 16 cents for every dollar generated there. Those same partners also supply critical computing infrastructure and compete in AI themselves, so Anthropic's ability to expand its own margins depends on having enough pricing power and operating efficiencies to absorb both fees and infrastructure costs.
The path from scale to sustainable profit therefore runs through how durable Anthropic's revenue proves to be, not merely how fast it grows.
