JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said on the bank's third-quarter earnings call that it blocks outside AI agents from logging in to or acting on customer accounts, calling them "too risky for clients and for JPMorgan."
Why it matters
The bank is drawing a security line as AI tools that act on a customer's behalf spread, and it says it will only support secure, customer-authorized data sharing through open banking providers.
WHO IT HITSThis lands on bank customers who use third-party AI assistants to manage finances, and on the fintech and open-banking providers that pipe account data to those assistants.

JPMorgan's stance comes as AI agents built to handle personal finance are reaching the market. Meta launched Muse in September, an agent that can send emails, book travel, and log calendars, and through an integration with fintech company Plaid, Muse users can connect financial accounts to get guidance on balances, transactions, and investment holdings. JPMorgan's block complicates that kind of strategy for agents aimed at personal finance.
The bank's concern is not hypothetical. A Cloud Security Alliance research note last month described a campaign in which three open-source AI agents allegedly worked together to breach at least 27 organizations and take more than 600,000 credit card records from two of them, and urged enterprises to build agentic AI attack scenarios into their threat models for retail and payment infrastructure.
Meta, for its part, declined to comment on whether Muse could still offer financial assistance if more banks move to prevent AI agents from consumer accounts. It said it is developing "Poppy," a personal agent protocol standard built with AI customer service company Sierra, meant to make clear to companies when a personal AI agent is acting for a customer.
