BotCircuits releases open-source AI agent that uses LLMs for reasoning and a deterministic state machine for workflow control

BotCircuits Agent is a workflow-native AI agent architecture where an LLM handles reasoning and tool calls for each step, while a deterministic state machine controls the overall flow.

The system supports interactive CLI, piping single messages, and a FastAPI gateway for HTTP and messaging channels. Workflows are authored as JSON files in .botcircuits/workflows/ and can be created, edited, or force-run via slash commands without restarting the agent.

The design produces predictable and token-efficient multi-step automation without depending on an LLM to drive everything, addressing deviations and token costs in agent systems.
