AWS gains access to OpenAI's most advanced models after Microsoft drops exclusive resale rights

Amazon committed $50 billion to OpenAI earlier this year, and OpenAI outlined plans to spend an additional $100 billion on AWS computing infrastructure and chips. Some OpenAI models are already available for preview on AWS, with the most powerful GPT models expected to arrive within weeks.

AWS launched Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents, designed to help autonomous AI systems (systems that make decisions and act independently) understand context and retain prior interactions. Enterprise customers want access to OpenAI models within AWS's existing environment rather than moving workloads across cloud providers.

AWS leadership indicates that demand for AI services still exceeds available computing supply, with OpenAI expected to take additional capacity as it comes online. This shift could begin to rebalance how customers evaluate cloud platforms.
